Prayer

Embodied prayer begins with awareness, acceptance and letting go of judgement so that movement can be experienced as if for the first time, and allowed to unfold from the heart.

Embodied prayer can take many forms. Mindful body awareness can help us to come to stillness, where the flow of the breath reminds us of the Spirit’s presence.

As we grow accustomed to paying attention to how our body feels from within we may gradually become sensitive to the ways in which divine grace touches us in the here and now.

Adopting certain postures and engaging with gestures and movement sequences can also be helpful.

Attuning to our body through improvised movement is another rich resource through which we may open our hearts to God and experience the gift of life as a dynamic, rhythmic, flowing dance of which we are a part.

In these simple ways body, mind and spirit come together as an expression of the whole person in action and at rest, restoring our sense of connection with ourselves, others, God and the wider world.
